Child Immunization Legal Exemption

How to Get What You Want...

A doctor talks about the dangers of vaccines.

The area of child immunization legal exemption is not clear for most parents. But now there is a way to determine your rights and your options--before you make a costly mistake…

You really only get one chance to get legal exemption for exempting your child from the usual child immunization schedule of vaccines. Make one mistake, and it can cost you thousands of dollars!

Alan Phillips, J.D., attorney and counselor at law, has written a book, Introduction to Vaccine Exemptions to help parents and attorneys with the legal issues surrounding childhood immunizations.

With increasing cases of childhood Crohn’s disease and autism, and more and more evidence that there is a connection between immunization and autism, many parents are choosing to opt out on child immunization.

But that is a very brave stance to take. Horror stories and misinformation about states taking legal action against parents and parents losing custody of their children abound, especially on the internet.

Fortunately there is a way to safely and legally defend your rights…

Child Immunization Legal Exemption

You’ve done your homework. And you’ve decided that you just aren’t comfortable with giving your child the long list of child immunizations.

What do you do now? The road ahead is pretty frightening. You may not have any friends or relatives who are in agreement, and understanding legalese is not easy!

The good news is that, where a state has mandated a vaccine, there is always one or more ways to get an exemption. Usually the exemptions fall into these categories:

  • Medical - When a vaccine poses a serious risk of harm because of an existing medical condition, you may be able to get an exemption. Usually you will have to get a recommendation from a physician to be eligible for this. In some states, your request may still be refused by the health department.

  • Religious - This is the most commonly granted vaccine exemption. If you sincerely object to vaccinations (like the Amish), and you meet specific criteria, you have a good chance of getting a child immunization legal exemption. This is true in 48 states and in all federal jurisdictions.

  • Personal or Philosophical - Not as common, this exemption is offered in 20 states.

While it’s important to know the basics, it’s also important that you do everything exactly right when requesting an exemption. Please don’t make the mistake of copying an exemption letter or form off the internet, as this may bring a quick refusal from the health department or authorities.

Using Alan Phillips’ book, Vaccine Legal Exemptions will keep you out of trouble. And, in addition, it will tell you when you need to get an attorney’s help…
