Quarantine for Swine Flu? Could it Really Happen?

A quarantine for pandemic swine flu could occur in your country.
Several levels of mandatory social isolation could keep you and your family from shopping, gathering with others and traveling.

You or your family could be detained in these ways:- Patient isolation - If you or a family member becomes ill, either the patient or the whole family may be isolated from contact with others.
- China, Russia and Taiwan began planning to put anyone with symptoms of the deadly virus into isolation. (May 2009)
- Texas - Hayden Henshaw and his family were isolated indefinitely when they discovered that Hayden had the H1N1 virus. They were told to stay inside their home and away from the public.(April 24, 2009)
- Group Isolation - This could occur if you happened to be in a group (not your family) where someone gets the pandemic flu.
- Southern California - a marine based at the Twentynine Palms base became infected with swine flu. The marine and 30 others were held in isolation for 5 days.
- Silver Spring, MD - Students and teachers from the Barrie School, a private school in the Washington D.C. Suburbs, were held in China because a passenger on their airplane might have had swine flu.
- Cairo, Egypt - Each year about 3 million people Arabs make a pilgrimage to Mecca for the hajj, which is required of all able-bodied Muslims, at least once. It is expected to be held in early December in 2009. Thousands of Egyptians who return from Mecca this year, may be held in isolation.
- Australia - 3000 people quarantined, most after acquiring the flu or exposure to it aboard one of two cruise ships. (June 1, 2009)
- China – New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin detained in China after possibly being exposed to swine flu (Jun3 10,2009)
- Curfews and isolation for whole towns - Whole towns, villages or regions could be told to stay in their homes. Businesses could be closed. Distribution of goods stopped.
