A startling rotavirus vaccine recall by GlaxoSmithKline has just been made - due to the discovery of a pig virus contamination of the Rotarix Vaccine.
The vaccine is routinely given to infants, and, due to the pig DNA contamination, the rotavirus vaccine has been pulled off the market.
In yet another example of a vaccine that poses risks to the recipients, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals voluntarily recalled the contaminated vaccine, and the FDA recommended … that doctors suspend using Rotarix, one of two vaccines licensed in the U.S. against rotavirus, saying the vaccine is contaminated with material from a pig virus.
Here is an interview of Barbara Loe Fisher by Dr. Mercola, where Barbara explains the way the discovery was made, and discusses the rotavirus vaccine recall.
Barbara is an expert on vaccines and the harm they have done to so many children.

What was Dangerous About Rotarix Rotavirus Vaccinations?
The Rotarix rotavirus vaccine was developed to prevent rotavirus and rotavirus symptoms, including diarrhea and dehydration in infants.
Worldwide, about 30 million infants have received the vaccine, and in the U.S., about 1 million were vaccinated before the contamination was discovered. (While there are about 500,000 deaths due to rotavirus in infants worldwide each year, most of the deaths occur in undeveloped countries.)
The rotavirus vaccine was found to contain pig virus. While the virus discovered does not necessarily cause disease in humans, the concern is that we are finding that many diseases do cross species barriers.
In other words, we keep finding new diseases that can be passed from animal to man and vice versa.
Why is this important? There are some horrible diseases like avian flu (bird flu) and HIV (Aids) that originated in animals and can be transmitted to humans. We can’t allow these diseases, or any that are like them, to infiltrate our vaccines.
And the fact that the rotavirus vaccines were already contaminated, unnoticed by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and the U.S. government, is definitely cause for concern.
There is also concern that, the pig virus was found by new technology, not the standard tools being used to detect contaminants.
What other diseases are lurking in vaccines--undetected?
Other Vaccine Contaminations
This is not the first time that vaccines have been contaminated by dangerous substances. During the 1950s and 1960s the polio vaccine given to infants and children was commonly contaminated by the monkey virus, SV40.
SV40 had gotten into the vaccine during the manufacturing process (which used green monkey kidney cells to develop the polio vaccines, where SV40 thrived). It is now believed that it could have been present in the vaccines--up to 1999.
The SV40 virus is showing up in a number of cancers, including lung, brain, bone and lymphatic cancers.
To make sure that your child does not receive contaminated polio vaccine, you need to request an inactivated (dead) virus vaccine that was cultured in human cells, not monkey kidney cells.
While deaths do occur each year due to rotavirus, in the U.S., most children recover if they rest and drink lots of fluids.
Fortunately, the GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and the U.S. FDA were prompt in deciding on the rotavirus vaccine recall. They are to be commended for taking action, as soon as they knew about the issue.
