Social Distancing Effective Pandemic Flu Prevention
Social distancing may be the only surefire way to prevent pandemic flu. To protect your family, you need to be prepared to initiate distancing, whether self-imposed or government-directed.
What is social distancing? Very simply put, it is the act of keeping one's distance from others. Limiting social contact with others can be voluntary or it can be imposed on you by your government authorities. The reason that you would limit contact, is to protect you, your family and others from the pandemic flu (or any other highly contagious disease).

Did you know that the only flu treatment that worked in 1918-19 was homeopathy? It's true, and it's been well documented!Dr. Deborah Baker has written a book, Homeopathic/Herbal Flu Prevention and Cures that, not only includes homeopathic remedies for treatment AND prevention, but also includes dosages, the mystery for most non-professionals. The Proof That Distancing Works
There is proof in historical writings that social distancing works well to keep people healthy—even during a
pandemic
. In fact, during the
1918 pandemic Spanish flu
, the
Spanish Flu
, the town of St. Louis served as an example.St. Louis was the 4th largest city in the US at the time, but it had a far lower death rate than other large cities, even though it was very close to Kansas, where the epicenter (starting point) of the 1918 flu is believed to have started. How is that possible? St. Louis did the smart thing. When there were only a handful of people sick with the flu in St. Louis, Dr. Max Starkloff (Health Commissioner for the city) immediately shut down schools, businesses and public events. And then he urged people to stay home. Instead of quarantining just the sick, he took the opposite approach – and sent everyone home. Social Distancing! Dr. Starkloff was criticized by others, who felt that he acted hastily and hurt businesses. But, by stopping the spread of the infection, Dr. Starkloff helped St. Louis to remain largely free of the pandemic virus. Boston tried to do the same. However, they waited an extra week, and, as a result, their fatalities were much higher.
Social Distancing for the Swine Flu
There is a possibility that you will not have a choice about distancing. It may be imposed on you by your government. In the US, for example, the federal, state and local governments all have the authority to require isolation of sick people to protect the public.

And your government can also
quarantine you to your home
--sick or not. If you look on the US pandemic site, you will see that martial law can be enacted to make sure that people stay in place during a pandemic. But, the smart thing, of course, is not to wait until the government tells you that you can't leave your home. Self-imposed distancing can occur when you are ready, at any time, and it can help to save lives. Here are some of the things you can do for
flu prevention
to protect yourself and your family: This is only a partial list of ways that you can keep your family safe by distancing. Dr. J.P. Lofgren, state epidemiologist at the Alabama Dept. of Public Health has a website that will give you more information. Visit his website at

to learn more. In the event that the
swine flu H1N1
becomes a full fledged pandemic, you would be wise to consider social distancing. The
flu virus
is novel (never seen before), and humans have no antibodies to fight it. The best defense is a good offense, and, in this case, a good offense is avoidance!
